Hat Day is one of the most popular days at the Durning House. A free dessert is given to anyone wearing a hat, old or new. We have hats displayed, or our customers may wear their own. Some wonderfully creative old or new hats make their debut on hat day.
It is a wonderful opportunity to bring out Grandma’s old hat, and so much fun to dine in an atmosphere where everyone is wearing a hat. Leave your troubles at the door, don your favorite hat, and let loose the laughs!
A tender touch — we have lots of senior groups attend on hat day. On one particular hat day, a lady in a senior facility came even though she did not feel well. She wanted to wear her favorite another time. A few weeks later, her daughter brought us her hat. She said her mother had passed away; this was her last trip out, and it gave her such joy. She wanted us to have her hat for others to enjoy on hat day. We were so touched by this. Her pink hat with flowers all around still hangs on our rack for all to enjoy. So we say “Thank You” for making our day so much brighter.
